Korean Snack: Hotteok (호떡)

호떡 or Hotteok

This is a Korean snack, a street food in South Korea. I have been wanting to try making some of these for a while and yesterday, a holiday, was a great timing!

Here is how you make Hotteok:

Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Warm Water
  • ½ Tbsp Yeast
  • ½ Tbsp Sugar
  • 3 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • ½ Tbsp Salt
  • ¼ Cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Sugar
  • Chopped Peanuts (1½ Tbsp)
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
When we prepare the dough, we will need the warm water, yeast, sugar, all purpose flour and milk. Mix them all together, knead and set for about 3hours to rise.

I was a bit afraid of using yeast, it was my first time making a dough with it. But it was successful!

For the filling, use brown sugar, a dash or two of cinnamon and chopped peanuts.

I used Happy peanuts haha :))

Get small portions of the dough, shape them into small balls. Flatten the balls on your palm, and  place 2 tbsps of the filling in the middle. Then seal the dough by pinching the top together, still forming a stuffed ball.

Then prepare your frying pan with a bit of cooking oil. Fry the balls, while flattening the top and bottom, using any flat ladle.

When it turns golden brown, it's done!!!

I had a lot of fun doing this, it' been a long time since I last experimented on cooking! :D

God bless your day as you follow Him today!
